A message from MIDDLE SCHOOL EAST

Dear PVMS East Parents,

It will already be December 3rd next Monday. We have a few short weeks until Winter Break. There are many things happening over December. This afternoon we ended the week with our Viking Club activity. All of our students were engaged in a fun activity with our teachers. Please ask your child what they did.

Picture Re-Takes – Please note that picture re-takes have been returned to students to bring home.

Twitter – Please follow us on Twitter @PVMSEast for the latest news and information.

Winter Concert: Our Winter Concert on Thursday, December 6th at 7:30PM will be live streamed through our Facebook page. There are a limited number of seats and only ticket holders will be seated in the auditorium for the concert. We will also create an alternative location to watch the broadcast of the concert at PV East if you arrive without a ticket..

End of First Trimester – December 3rd marks the end of our first trimester.

PV Cares Drive – We are collecting non-perishable food for the local food pantry until December 10th. There is a collection box in the main office.

Virtual Reality Experiences - PV East would like to offer VR experiences to students during lunches on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Please sign up using the link below if you are interested/available to help out with this. (You must be an approved PV volunteer with all clearances.)

Technology Education/FCS Fees – Tech. Ed. and FCS project fees have been discontinued.  If your family has already made a Tech. Ed. or FCS payment this school year, you will receive a separate communication detailing how a reimbursement will be made early next week.

Backpack Pilot – Starting Dec. 3rd – MSE and MSW are launching a backpack pilot, which will allow students to decide whether or not they would like to carry their backpacks to classes, over the winter months.   At the end of the pilot, the two schools will evaluate student preparedness, behavior, and overall traveling storage necessity before deciding whether or not to extend the practice into the spring months.  Please note that the expectation of having cellphones turned off/stored in lockers will continue.

Parent IEP Workshop: On December 5th from 6:30-8:30 at MSE. Kris Koberlein from the MCIU will be providing parents with a general overview of the IEP process, discuss specially designed instruction, and community supports that are available to families. The attached flyer outlines the specifics of the event, including a website for families to preregister.

Yearbooks: Order your yearbooks!  Yearbooks are available for purchase online.  Orders can be made at https://www.jostens.com/apps/store/customer/1136638/Perkiomen-Valley-Middle-School-East/.

Builders Club: Please read the attachment regarding items that will be collected for the homeless through ‘Project Snowflake’.

Khan Academy Math Resource: Our math teachers created online classes in Khan Academy Mappers. Please read the attachment for directions to access your child’s account. Your child can access this online resource with his/her Google login.  Khan Academy offers lessons in many subjects but for math we added your child's MAP math assessment data so Khan Academy can provide your child an individualized learning plan. Essentially, Khan Academy will provide lessons and assessments on math topics which your child is ready to learn. Research indicates 30 minutes of active engagement with Khan Academy every week can positively impact your child's math performance. Additionally, math teachers can monitor student progress and select lessons for students to complete in Khan Academy.

Please ask your child to show you his/her Khan Academy Mappers account and please encourage him/her to participate online with Khan Academy Mappers every week.

PSSA Calendar: Please be aware of these PSSA testing dates as you make plans for Spring Break.

Nurse’s Notes:

HEALTH EXAMS: Please remember that 6th grade students require a physical examination and 7th grade students require a dental examination. If your child has had these examinations, please be sure to send a copy in to the Nurse's office. Forms are available on the PV website. Your cooperation with this is most appreciated!

Medications: If your child has been diagnosed with a life-threatening allergy, seizures or asthma AND requires emergency medication, please be sure to bring the medication to school with the appropriate forms completed by the physician. Forms can be found on the PV website.
