Principal's Message 2/9/18

posted Feb 9, 2018, 4:22 PM by Chris Hughes

Dear PVMS East Parents,

On Tuesday, February 13th we will have a half day. Students will be taking a math assessment (4 Sight or CDT) and then watching a magic show that includes math with Sam Sandler, “America’s Premier Deaf Magician”. Please check us out on Twitter and Facebook.

Match-O-Matic: Please encourage your student(s) to fill out the Match-o-Matic survey using this link or QR Code. The survey will match up students with current and potential new friends, both male and female, who answer most like them. No one is obligated to participate but the more, the merrier! Student Council will be selling the result sheets, as a fundraiser, after we receive them from the Match-o-Matic company in about 1-2 weeks. Students who purchase their sheet will also receive birthday-based trivia. The survey will close on Sunday, 2/11/18 at midnight so HURRY and have your student(s) fill out the survey as soon as possible!

Box Top Drive: Please send your box tops in for the February drive by 2/22/18.  The homeroom with the most box tops will win Philly Soft Pretzels and bragging rights.  Be sure to check the expiry dates on your box tops before sending them in.  Thank you in advance from your Home and School.

Immunizations: Will your child be entering 7th grade in 2018-2019?

The PA Department of Health immunization requirements for this age group include: 1 dose of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) (if 5 years have lapsed since last tetanus immunization) and 1 dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV).

Please be sure to provide the school nurse with documentation of these vaccines to avoid exclusion at the start of the next school year. See the attached flyer for more information.

Spring Musical: Please mark your calendars for our production on ‘The Lion King’. The show will be on the following dates and times in the auditorium. Information will be coming out soon about ordering tickets.

  • Friday 3/2 at 7:30PM
  • Saturday 3/3 at 6:00PM
  • Sunday 3/4 at 1:00PM

Comprehensive Planning/Special Education Plan Update:

It’s time to begin Comprehensive Planning here at PV. Every three years, school districts are required to create a plan that helps "set the course" for the district over the next three years.  A Steering Committee made up of stakeholders (employees, parents, students, Board members and community members) has been formed to lead this effort and is already working toward developing a mission, vision, and goals for our district.

We hope to provide helpful information throughout this process through website updates and emails. Part of this process will also involve us asking you for feedback about our district through surveys. Keep an eye out for future requests. In the meantime, you can keep up to date on Comprehensive Plan by visiting the district website for information. Check the “News from around the district” for updates or click on the “About” tab and select “Comprehensive Planning” from the drop down menu.
