A message from MIDDLE SCHOOL EAST

Dear PVMS East Parents,

There are many things happening at PV East. Please follow us on Facebook to keep up to date with all that is happening in school.

Picture Day: Barksdale will be taking student pictures on Tuesday, September 26th in the Auditorium. Pictures re-takes are on 11/9/17.

PSSA/Keystone Results: On Friday, September 29th, students will be sent home with a sealed envelope that will include their PSSA and Algebra Keystone results. Please ask them for it. We ask that students not open the envelope.

Water Bottles: Students are permitted to carry clear plastic water bottles with them.  The water bottles can only contain water. Some students are adding flavored powder to their water or filling their bottle with sports drinks.  This is not permitted.

Traffic Concern: Please pull up in the drop off lane so that the cars behind you have room to drop off their student. It is important that you only drop off your child in front of the auditorium entrance. Although, if there is no room in the drop off lane, please pull into the parking lot rather than blocking the lane into the school.   Please remember to follow all posted signs including those for handicapped parking. You should have a handicapped tag if you are parking in these designated spots.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Safety Week: October 10-13 will be Safety Week. Each day we will practice another drill. The safety drills are as follows: Lockout! Secure the Perimeter; Lockdown! Locks, Lights, Out of Sight; Evacuate!; and Shelter!. Fire and Police officials may be present to monitor some of these drills.

AMC Math Contest: Is your child advanced in and LOVES math?  If so, your child may wish to participate in the AMC 8 Math contest on Tuesday, November 14th from 8:00-9:00 AM, at Middle School East.

The American Math Competition 8 is designed for mathematically advanced middle school students who are mathematical thinkers. The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40 minute multiple choice contest. The contest is only for individual recognition only.

To be eligible for participation, students must return no later than Monday, October 2nd, the registration form which may be obtained outside Ms. Kashey’s door (room 118, Tech Ed hallway). Please note that participation in the AMC 8 Math Contest does NOT require payment of the PVSD Activity Fee.

Home & School Envelope Campaign Our Home & School Association sent envelopes home on the first day of school for their annual fundraising campaign. Please consider supporting our Home & School Association.

Social Media: Much of the adolescent bullying that occurs is through social media. We do discuss the issue of cyber-bullying with students.  These are some resources that are recommended for parents:

Common Sense Media - Free website regarding the latest research on social media.

https://www.commonsensemedia.org/

UKnowKids – Monthly fee service to monitor your child’s online activity.

Please contact your school counselor if have concerns or questions.

On behalf of the PVMS East staff, we wish you an enjoyable weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. Seamus Clune

Principal
